This website was originally developed to help myself and friends of mine who work with the public, professionally and as volunteers, find the resources they need in one quick, easy place that could be accessed at anytime, day or night, in the privacy of their home or office.
This website has greatly expanded over the past 4 years, much larger & faster than I had originally anticipated, thanks to professionals from around S.E. Michigan, sharing their time and skills & helping me to investigate new (and re-verify older) resources. One of the main features of "Julie's List" is that I list not only public resources, but private ones as well! I search diligently for those that are for members of certain groups, religions, illnesses, disabilities etc., in order to provide ALL of us with the most complete listings possible.
Also, some social groups prefer services that are unique to their religion and/or culture. For instance, a Native-American may prefer to try traditional healing first when ill. Or a person may prefer medical or other services from their own cultural group for a variety of reasons, such as a person of Arabic, Asian or Jewish ancestry. Some services are only open to those who have served their country in the Armed Services and some are not open to those who are not legal U.S. citizens. Please check each resource's qualifications before calling!
I update this site several times a week and still have a great amount of resources to add to it....not including all the resources sent to me by all of you on a regular basis! Many of you have been quite generous in sharing your resources....I just wish I had time to get them ALL listed immediately as you send them! I do send out immediate e-mails to those on the mailing list when particularly terrific (or time-sensitive) events or resources come across my desk.
Metro Detroit has a tremendous amount of agencies and organizations to help its citizens. But with financial cutbacks due to the poor economy, its very difficult for these agencies & organizations to justify spending precious dollars for advertising that could instead be put to good use helping the clients who seek them out. "Julie's List" helps those agencies get the word out. This was not the original intent of the site but it was a nice little "extra"!
Please keep checking back as new information is added frequently!
